  91. 2.2.) Hardware installation
  92.  
  93.   Install your graphics board as described in the Hardware Manual
  94.   supplied with your board. To use miroTWINFACE with two monitors
  95.   having different technical data, connect the monitor with the
  96.   lower resolution to the daughterboard. Connect the second monitor
  97.   to the basic board. If you have two monitors with identical
  98.   technical data, you do not have to connect them as described
  99.   above. The monitor connected to the daughterboard displays the
  100.   boot messages and the fullscreen DOS prompt. Make sure that DIP
  101.   switch 2 is not set to ON.
  102.  
  103.   It is assumed that the monitor connected to the daughterboard
  104.   is located on the right-hand side of your desktop and the
  105.   monitor connected to the basic board on the left-hand side.
  106.   This allocation can be redefined as described under 2.4.d).
  107.   We recommend this arrangement, however, for monitors with
  108.   different technical data, because then the icons for minimized
  109.   programs are always located at the bottom on the left-hand
  110.   side in the visible screen area.
  111.  
  112.  
  113. 2.3.) Driver installation
  114.  
  115.   It is required that you have installed Windows NT 4.0 with a
  116.   graphics driver for your VGA board.
  117.  
  118.   a) By using the Icon "My Computer", you can start the "Control Panel"
  119.      program..
  120.  
  121.   b) Start the "Display-Tool". Switch to the "Settings" section.
  122.  
  123.   c) Please choose the "Change Display Type" button.
  124.  
  125.   d) The "Display Type" window offers an overview of the currently
  126.      active Display Driver. Please activate the "Change..."-button.
  127.  
  128.   e) In the "Select Device" offers you an overview of all display
  129.      drivers supplied with your Windows NT 4.0 Installation. Please
  130.      select the "Have Disk..."-button.
  131.   
  132.   f) In the "Install from Disk" window, please choose the driver and
  133.      directory containing your installation software. You can search
  134.      your drivers by using the "Browse"-button. Only files with the 
  135.      filename extension ".inf" are displayed. The file you have to
  136.      look for is named "mirotwin.inf".
  137.  
  138.   g) After selecting the proper file, you choose the installed graphics
  139.      board from the "Change Display" window. Select your board and
  140.      press "OK" or doubleclick the appropriate entry in the list.
  141.  
  142.   h) Select "YES" in the "Third-party Drivers" messagebox.
  143.      The driver files are now being copyied to your harddisk.
  144.  
  145.   i) Close the "Display Type" and the "Display Properties" windows and
  146.      reboot the computer.
  147.  
  148.   j) After the restart the driver which has just been installed
  149.      is active with the lowest resolution (31 kHz VESA monitor:
  150.      640 x 480, 256 colours, 60 Hz). Go on with 2.4.) to select a
  151.      monitor and with 2.5.) to change the resolution.
  152.  
  153.   If problems occur with the display driver when restarting
  154.   the system, you can reselect the VGA driver by using the
  155.   "Windows NT Version 4.0 [VGA mode]" option in the boot menu.
  156.   If this doesn`t solve the problem use the "last good menu"
  157.   option to reselect the old configuration.
  158.  
  159.   If your system uses another display driver, you need the installation
  160.   disk to enable the miro driver again.
  161.  
  162.  
  163. 2.4.) miro Monitor Select - Control Panel extension
  164.  
  165.   a) By using the Icon "My Computer", you can start the "Control Panel"
  166.      program..
  167.  
  168.   b) To select the monitors, start the "miro Monitor Select"-Tool.
  169.  
  170.   c) The titles consists of the name of your graphics board or your
  171.      miroTWINMODULE which is assigned to the left/right monitors.
  172.  
  173.   d) If the boards are not assigned to the correct monitor, you
  174.      can change this setting using the "Boot messages on left
  175.      monitor" / "Boot messages on right monitor buttons. Select
  176.      the monitor on which the boot messages appeared. After
  177.      changing the setting, the titles are updated according to
  178.      2.4.c). Also, the resolution list may change according to
  179.      2.4.f).
  180.  
  181.   e) Select your monitor from the "Monitor" list. If your monitor
  182.      is not listed, select the monitor from the "Multi Frequency"
  183.      monitors with the frequency which comes close to the frequency
  184.      of your monitor.
  185.  
  186.   f) After a short while you see the "Available Resolutions" list
  187.      which gives you an overview of all resolutions supported by
  188.      your monitor and the horizontal and vertical refresh rates.
  189.      Please make sure that you do not select a horizontal scan
  190.      frequency which is higher than the horizontal scan frequency
  191.      of your monitor.
  192.  
  193.   g) To avoid loading the miroTWINFACE driver, press the "disable
  194.       miroTWINFACE" button. If you disabled the "Disable current
  195.       driver" button, the driver running before (e.g. miroCRYSTAL
  196.       (single-screen) ) or the VGA driver is activated.
  197.  
  198.   h) To confirm your selection, click "OK".
  199.  
  200.   i) In the "Monitor Settings Change" window you can restart your
  201.      computer immediately by pressing the "Restart Now" button.
  202.      You can also click the "Don't Restart Now" button to get back
  203.      to the "Control Panel" program. Restart the system using the
  204.      taskbar.
  205.  
  206.   j) After the restart the selected monitors are active. If the
  207.      resolutions and refresh rates differ from the settings of
  208.      the previous monitor, the system will notify you. Then, the
  209.      640 x 480 resolution with 256 colors and 31 kHz / 60 Hz is
  210.      enabled for both screens. To change the resolution, proceed
  211.      with 2.5.).
  212.  
  213.   k) Instad of proceeding as described under h), you can abort the
  214.      tool by pressing the "Cancel" button. In this case, the settings
  215.      you made will not be enabled.
  216.  
  217.   PLEASE NOTE:
  218.   The "miro Monitor Select" icon is only available in the
  219.   "Control Panel" program, if a driver installed from this disk
  220.   is currently active.
  221.   If you disabled the miroTWINFACE driver under 2.4.g), the
  222.   miroMONITOR-Select program for the single-screen operation receives
  223.   another button which activates miroTWINFACE. For the single-screen
  224.   and the dual-screen operation the monitors have to be configured
  225.   individually. There is no synchronisation between both installations.
  226.  
  227.  
  228. 2.5.) Changing the resolutions
  229.  
  230.   a) By using the Icon "My Computer", you can start the "Control Panel"
  231.      program..
  232.  
  233.   b) Start the "Display" tool to select/change the video display.
  234.  
  235.   c) The "List All Modes" button lists the resolutions your
  236.      board and your monitor support and the number of colours
  237.      and frequencies. Double-click to select a resolution.
  238.  
  239.      PLEASE NOTE:
  240.      For miroTWINFACE for Windows NT version 4.0 the horizontal
  241.      resolutions are added, the vertical resolution is the
  242.      maximum resolution of the basic board. If this resolution
  243.      is higher than the maximum vertical resolution of the
  244.      daughterboard, the remaining screen area is displayed
  245.      virtually, the workspace can be moved by moving the mouse
  246.      cursor toward the upper or the lower screen margin. The
  247.      selected frequency refers to the monitor connected to the
  248.      basic board. Detailed information for both monitors you will
  249.      receive from the "miro Monitor Select" program.
  250.  
  251.   d) You can also use the "Desktop area" slider, the
  252.      "Color Palette" and the "Refresh Frequency" windows to
  253.      select a resolution. Keep in mind that the settings are
  254.      interdependent. If you select an invalid setting, the
  255.      other options change so that a valid setting is restored.
  256.  
  257.   e) To check the selected resolution in a testscreen, click
  258.      the "Test" button and confirm.
  259.  
  260.      - Is the selected resolution/frequency displayed on both
  261.        monitors?
  262.      - Is the specified resolution the resolution of the visible
  263.        screen area?
  264.      - Are the arrows in the margins of the testscreen visible?
  265.        (In the virtual mode the arrows are not visible on the
  266.        monitor connected to the daughterboard.)
  267.      - Are the coloured and the hatched areas displayed correctly?
  268.  
  269.   f) After five seconds the testscreen disappears and you see the
  270.      workspace again. If the resolution on the testscreen is OK,
  271.      confirm the "Testing Mode" window with "Yes".
  272.  
  273.   g) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  274.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  275.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display type" window.
  276.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  277.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.
  278.  
  279.   h) After the restart the new resolution is active.
  280.  
  281.   i) If you do not like the resolution, click "No" in the "Testing Mode"
  282.      window. After another message has appeared, you are back in the
  283.      "Display Settings" window. Select another resolution and continue
  284.      with e) or close the Display Tool by clicking the "Cancel" button.
  285.  
  286.   The "Font Size" window allows you to select another font size
  287.   (see d)). If you have not installed the fonts of the selected
  288.   size, you are requested to insert the installation disk under
  289.   A:\. Overwrite the default with the drive letter of you CD drive
  290.   and enter the path \i386. Insert the Windows NT Version 4.0 CD
  291.   in your CD drive so that the required files can be copied to your
  292.   hard disk.
  293.  
  294.  
  295. 2.6.) miro Video Address (Control Panel extension)
  296.  
  297.   To accelerate the image output even more, activate the linear
  298.   video addressing function. For this purpose an extension of the
  299.   Control Panel is installed during the installation. Open the
  300.   Control Panel Program and click the "miro Video Address" icon
  301.   to configure the linear video address,
  302.  
  303.   PLEASE NOTE:
  304.   Keep in mind that problems may occur with motherboards which
  305.   do not decode the addresses completely and in case of address
  306.   conflicts with other memory-mapped expansion boards or with
  307.   the main memory.
  308.  
  309.   PLEASE NOTE:
  310.   For the driver for Windows NT 4.0 and a computer with PCI bus
  311.   your system activates this option automatically. If any problems
  312.   occur with your motherboard (e.g. older motherboards with PCI
  313.   bus and Vesa Local bus), disable this option. All other
  314.   adjustments of this tool will be ignored by the driver.
  315.  
  316.   Use the "Linear Video Addressing enabled" and the
  317.   "Linear Video Addressing disabled" buttons to switch the
  318.   linear video addressing function on/off:
  319.  
  320.   - "Linear Video Addressing enabled" switches this option on.
  321.     Then the video memory of the graphics board is unsegmented
  322.     and can be accessed by the display driver under the address
  323.     specified under "Physical address".
  324.  
  325.   - "Linear Video Addressing disabled" switches this option off
  326.     (default setting).
  327.  
  328.   The linear video address is specified under "Physical address".
  329.   This address can be overwritten with a hexadecimal value. Make
  330.   sure that the new address is aligned with 8 MB (example of
  331.   sequence of increasing addresses: 7400.000 - 7480.000 - 7500.0000).
  332.   (Default setting: fe00.0000)
  333.  
  334.   Use the arrow buttons beside the display window to increase /
  335.   decrease the video address in 8 MB steps.
  336.  
  337.   The "Reset" button enables the default settings.
  338.  
  339.   Confirm your settings by clicking "OK" and close the
  340.   "configuration of linear video address". The settings take
  341.   effect after the computer has been restarted. If the address
  342.   you entered is not aligned correctly, you cannot close the
  343.   window using the "OK" button. Correct the setting or click
  344.   "Cancel" to abort.
  345.  
  346.   If problems occur with the display driver when restarting
  347.   the computer, start the system with another driver as
  348.   described under 2.3) and switch the linear video
  349.   addressing function off.
  350.  
  351.   PLEASE NOTE:
  352.   The "miro Video Address" icon is only available in the "Control Panel"
  353.   program, if a driver installed from this disk is currently active.
  354.  
  355.  
  356. 2.7.) Positioning windows
  357.  
  358. 2.7.1.) through Windows NT 4.0
  359.  
  360.   Windows NT 4.0 has the capability to align windows.
  361.  
  362.   When clicking the Maximize button the window is maximized to
  363.   a size which is determined by the virtual resolution of the
  364.   smaller monitor which is connected to the base board. Maximized
  365.   and normally sized windows can be moved independently of each
  366.   other, the system always remembers their last position. Dialog
  367.   boxes appear on one of both monitors.
  368.  
  369.   By default, this option is switched off. It can be switched on
  370.   as described under 2.7.3.).
  371.  
  372.   NOTE:
  373.   In case of incompatibilities with apllications you use, you
  374.   cannot use this option.
  375.  
  376.  
  377. 2.7.2.) miroTWINFACE control - Program for positioning windows
  378.  
  379.   Along with the miroTWINFACE drivers, a program for controlling
  380.   the window positions is copied to your hard disk. This program
  381.   extends the possibilities for positioning windows the driver
  382.   offers. When this program is active, dialog boxes, which
  383.   otherwise appear on both screens. appear on the screen where
  384.   the mouse cursor is located. When clicking on the Maximize
  385.   button, the window is maximized on the screen, where the
  386.   mouse cursor is currently located.
  387.  
  388.   Add the "MTWINCON.EXE" program which is located in the
  389.   "WINNT\SYSTEM32" directory using the Drag and Drop function
  390.   of the Explorer to one of your program groups. If you
  391.   include the program in the Autostart group, the program is
  392.   active immediately after you have logged in. After the program
  393.   has been started, it is available as an icon on your desktop.
  394.   For information on how to configure miroTWINFACE control, refer
  395.   to 2.7.3.). To close the program, select the "Close" command
  396.   in its system menu or log out.
  397.  
  398.   NOTE:
  399.   Not all windows can be controlled by miroTWINFACE control. This
  400.   phenomenon is inherent in the system and must not be regarded
  401.   as a failure. In case of incompatibilities with apllications
  402.   you use, you cannot use miroTWINFACE control.
  403.  
  404.  
  405. 2.7.3.) miroTWINFACE control - Control Panel Extension
  406.  
  407.   This extension is copied together with the "miro Monitor
  408.   Select" extension. Open the Control Panel Program and click the
  409.   "miroTWINFACE control" icon to configure miroTWINFACE control.
  410.  
  411.   To configure the positioning of maximized windows, select the
  412.   "MAXIMIZE alignment" button (default = off).
  413.  
  414.   To configure the positioning of the dialog boxes, click on the
  415.   "Dialog alignment" button (default = off).
  416.  
  417.   The "Alignment by System" button lets you switch on the Windows
  418.   NT 4.0 alignment function (default = off).
  419.  
  420.   To confirm, click "OK" and close the "configuration of
  421.   miroTWINFACE control". Now, the selected settings are saved and
  422.   will be used by every application which will be started. To abort
  423.   the configuration, click on "Cancel".
  424.  
  425.   If you changed the "Alignment by System" option, you can restart
  426.   the system by pressing the "Restart Now" button in the "Alignment
  427.   Settings Change". You can also go back to the "Control Panel"
  428.   program by pressing the "Don┤t restart now" button. Restart the
  429.   system using the Program Manager.
  430.  
  431.   NOTE:
  432.   You can also use both options: the Windows NT 4.0 and the
  433.   miroTWINFACE control alignment. In case of incompatibilities
  434.   with other applications, one or both options cannot be used
  435.   available.

  438. 3.) Deleting drivers
  439.  
  440.   Delete drivers you do not need anymore by enabling
  441.   another driver using the Display Tool of the Control
  442.   Panel program and by restarting the sytem afterwards.
  443.   Then, use the File Manager to delete the display driver
  444.   (extension .DLL) under \WINNT\SYSTEM32 and the
  445.   miniport driver (extension .SYS) and the configuration
  446.   files (extension .INI) under \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.

  448.  
  449. 4.) In case of problems
  450.  
  451.   In case of problems with the VGA DOS box in the
  452.   fullscreen mode ask your dealer or miro for an update
  453.   of the BIOS-ROM. In some cases an unsynchronized image
  454.   may stabilize by switching between the window and the
  455.   fullscreen mode of the VGA DOS box.
  456.  
  457.   The VGA DOS boxs only supports the resolutions
  458.   available for a 'standard VGA', e.g. display modes of
  459.   up to 320x200 pixels with 256 colors or 640x480 pixels
  460.   with 16 colors. If a DOS application tries to use a
  461.   higher resolution, the VGA DOS box, or, in the worst
  462.   case, the hole system might crash.

  464.  
  465. 4.) Special hint
  466.  
  467.   Please do not try to install drivers or system-relevant
  468.   tools which are suited for Microsoft Windows 3.x or
  469.   Microsoft Windows 95. Windows NT 4.0 does not support
  470.   these drivers or tools. In the worst case, this may
  471.   cause a system crash.
